National Workshop Promotes Strengthening Open Science and Open Access Scientific Journals in Angola
Between July 31 and August 7, 2025, Angola will host the National Workshop for Strengthening Open Science Initiatives and Consolidating Angolan Open Access Scientific Journals. The initiative is promoted by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation (MESCTI), in partnership with national and international institutions such as UNESCO, the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico (UAEM), Redalyc/AmeliCA, the UNESCO National Commission for Angola, the Academy of Social Sciences and Technologies (ACITE), and Óscar Ribas University (UÓR).
The event will be attended by Professor Eduardo Aguado-López, founder of the Redalyc/AmeliCA Scientific Information System and an international leader in Open Science. Your participation represents a strategic opportunity for dialogue between Angola and the leading global Open Access scientific publishing networks.
With a diverse program, the workshop aims to:
• Promote the culture of Open Science in higher education and scientific research in Angola;
• Support the consolidation of the Angolan Open Access Repository (RanAA);
• Stimulate the creation of institutional repositories;
• Strengthen Angola's alignment with the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science (2021).
One of the expected milestones of the meeting is the reactivation of the Technical Group responsible for the Development of the National Open Science Policy/Strategy, which will resume its activities of formulating policy guidelines aligned with international best practices.
MESCTI's institutional support, in conjunction with national and international partners, is considered essential to the initiative's success. The event aims to actively engage scientific researchers, editors of technical and scientific works, librarians, faculty, students, and representatives of research and development institutions, promoting the creation of a Rational Network of Open Access Scientific Journals, supported by criteria of quality, editorial ethics, and international collaboration.
The workshop will be open to all those interested in developing Open Science and Open Data practices and infrastructures in the country. Registration is available through the following online form: https://forms.gle/FubKRbn7sfjsL3h48.
Participants will be able to participate in lectures by national and international experts, debates, technical sessions, and collaborative working groups.
